Book Review: I am Loved by Nikki Giovanni

I Am Loved by Nikki Giovanni

What a beautiful book!! I'm not usually a poetry fan.... but found a few here I really enjoyed. My absolute favorites were 'Quilts' and 'Paula the Cat'. The illustrations are exquisite!

Book Review: The Other Einstein by Marie Benedict

The Other Einstein by Marie Benedict

Wow! Another great read from Marie Benedict... I have no clue as to the historical accuracy of this work of fiction... but the plausibility of this story is firm. This is a story of the mathematics student who was Albert Einstein's first wife. The woman's story of education vs marriage and children vs an ambitious spouse is an old one that many of us can relate to. Definitely worth a read if you are an historical fiction fan!

Book Review: I, Eliza Hamilton by Susan Holloway Scott

I, Eliza Hamilton by Susan Holloway Scott

Not bad, not stellar..... I love the historical fiction bit and much of the story is entertaining. But it really does drag in places and I had a hard time getting through some of it. On the other hand, I cared enough to keep going and finish it up! So a mixed review.... not sorry I read it - but not looking for more either.

Book Review: The Secret, Book and Scone Society by Ellery Adams

A thoroughly delightful book! Definitely a light read - a bit of a mystery and a lot of fun! The characters are engaging and interesting and I read it cover to cover..... Just enough meat to it to keep me involved...

Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett

What a great saga! I thoroughly enjoyed the story - but it was a little long for me. I definitely am looking for the next one in the series though.

Book Review: Les Parisiennes by Anne Seba

It took me a long time to wade through - but I thoroughly enjoyed it! This is a nonfiction from an historical time period that fascinates me. I've read countless historical fiction accounts from Nazi-occupied France.... and reading the factual accounts that are the basis for these stories fascinates me even more. I appreciate the well rounded accounts of all types of women of France and how they lived - one day at a time - during the war. Women who ended up on one side or the other simply from the day-to-day choices we all must make.... at a time when even a choice of how to feed your family might put you on one side or the other.. If you, like me, can appreciate how women manage to make do, fight, survive under the harshest of circumstances..... you will appreciate this account of these women. FIVE stars!
